Dialysis is an important replacement therapy for the patients with End Stage
Renal Failure. It includes peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis. For the
patients with Renal Failure caused by Diabetes, peritoneal dialysis is a better
choice for them than hemodialysis.
△ Peritoneal dialysis is performed slowly and persistently. It is different
from the ultrafiltration in hemodialysis which is performed at a fast speed.
Therefore, peritoneal dialysis usually does not cause hypovolemia or
hypotension. Therefore, it is safer for the patients with Diabetes complicated
with serious cardiovascular diseases.
△ Peritoneal dialysis can help control the blood pressure(why blood pressure
fluctuates in Kidney Disease) more effectively than hemodialysis. Peritoneal
dialysis can remove some moderate molecular substances which can elevate blood
pressure. Therefore, the incidence of high blood pressure in the patients on
peritoneal dialysis is lower than those on hemodialysis.
△ As the patients with Diabetes are usually companied by vascular diseases,
it is difficult to build AVF. Even if AVF is built successfully, it may fail
after a short time. However, peritoneal dialysis does not need building AVF at
all.
△ Heparin may increase the risk of bleeding thus increasing the chance of
fundus hemorrhage. Peritoneal dialysis does not need heparin, which can decline
the incidence of bleeding.
△ The patients on peritoneal dialysis can get insulin from dialysis fluid
directly. It is more convenient than subcutaneous injection and also can
decrease their sufferings as well as accord with physiological requirements.
△ The patients with Diabetes are often accompanied by autonomic neuropathy.
They are very likely to have hypotension in hemodialysis, but the problem is
rare in peritoneal dialysis.
However, hemodialysis also can cause some complications like obesity,
peritonitis etc.
Moreover, the patients with Renal Failure should know that dialysis can not
improve renal function at all. To improve renal function and avoid aggravation
of renal function, they should receive effective treatment as early as
possible.
