Can Patients with Nephrotic Syndrome Be Cured

Nephrotic Syndrome is a common disease in both adults and children. The prognosis varies with the individual conditions. According to the pathological categories of Nephrotic Syndrome, the minimal change glomerulonephritis usually have a good prognosis. However, the other pathological categories like FSGS, membranous glomerulonephritis may progress into Renal Failure in several years.

In fact, in the early stage of Nephrotic Syndrome, if it is treated properly, the patients have 50% chance to be cured permanently. However, in some cases, Nephrotic Syndrome relapses frequently and finally progresses into Renal Failure. That is because most of the patients do not attach much importance to the disease. In the early stage of Nephrotic Syndrome, most of the patients do not have much discomfort. Also after a period of hormone therapy, most of them have improvement obviously. At that time, they may think they are cured so they reduce hormone dosage without the doctors’ instruction. Unfortunately, it is very likely to cause the relapse of Nephrotic Syndrome.

In some cases, a child may be diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome at 2 or 3 years old and develop Renal Failure in his/her 20s. During such a long period, the disease may relapse again and again resulting in the worse result finally. Therefore, if Nephrotic Syndrome relapses frequently, the patients should have other alternative treatment at once to delay the development of the disease so as to get the opportunity of cure.

If the disease keeps progressively, it will cause damage more and more nephrons. Once the glomeruli are impaired extensively, it is very hard to reverse their renal function and the cure chance is very slight.


Therefore, to increase the chance of cure, the patients with Nephrotic Syndrome should have proper treatment as early as possible. If the hormone does not have effect at all or the disease relapses frequently after hormone therapy, they should choose other alternative treatment immediately.
