Diet Notice for Patients with Renal Failure

A state of declining renal functional loss is termed renal failure. The renal can’t eliminate of toxin, hydrogen, sodium, potassium ion which accumulated in the blood. Control diet is a basic therapeutic method for Renal Failure, which reduce the production of toxin and keep the balance of nutrition demand and electrolyte. However, these food schedules are little bit difficult for the patients because they need to control themselves to give up some delicious food.

1. Keep the food with high quality protein

Patients with Renal Failure should limit the protein intake to alleviate the burden of kidneys. If patients don’t have the protein intake, it may consume the muscle and organ tissues of human body. Therefore, one patient 1~1.2g/ protein per kg each day should be intake. The patients should have some food with High-quality protein, such as milk, egg, meat and bean-curds.

2 Take in enough Calorie

In the course of limiting protein, in order to avoid the shortage of Calorie, patients should eat food with enough Calorie and low-protein. Such as vegetable oil (soybean, peanut oil), low protein starch (wheat powder, lotus root powder), saccharides (crystal sugar, honey, fruits juice ), the Calorie intake should be kept around 30~40 kilocalorie per kg everyday, lest causing underweight.

3. Control water intake carefully

Patients with Renal Failure, long-term oliguria is easy to accumulate the liquid in the body, which increase the burden of the cardiovascular system, which lead to edema, cough, high blood, vomiting, muscle cramp and headache. And the patients may occur the symptoms of gaining weight, reducing Hct, can’t lie down, heart failure, pericarditis, dialysis imbalance Syndromes, etc. the patients should keep weight gaining not more than 1 kg one day and the total water intake should be equal to the total urine volume of the previous day plus 500~700ml. For example, if the urine volume of yesterday is 500 ml, the water intake of today should be 500Cc+500 ( 7D0) ml= 1000 ~ 1200ml. Avoid drink more water, and reduce the water intake.

4. Control the salt intake

Patients Renal Failure can’t get rid of water and salt properly, which may cause Edema and lead to High Blood Pressure. Salt intake should be controlled within 5g each day. Limit high-sodium food intake, such as the canned food, pickled, smoked products, pickled vegetable, fast food and so on.

5. Control potassium ion intake

Hyperkalemia is referring to the kidney can’t eliminate the potassium ion and lead to numbness of fingers, fatigue, myasthenia of limbs, chest pain, tongue stiff, pararthria, anesthesia, arrhythmia, cardiac standstill.

High-potassium vegetables and fruits: spinach, water spinach, three-colored amaranth, mushroom, nori, kelp, carrot, potato, banana, tomato, Chinese dates, orange, mandarin orange, mango, persimmon, muskmelon, grapefruit, carambola.

6. Maintain the balance of calcium and phosphorus

Calcium and phosphorus are the important mineral substances for maintaining the growth of skeleton and tooth, and promote the normal operation of neuromusculair. Patients lack of calcium should replenish with milk, calcium tablet, vitamin D to reduce the occurrence of Renewal Recurrent Vice Hyperthyroidism.

7. Food with aluminum and purine should eat less to avoid aluminum poisoning and gout.

High- aluminum diet: tea, cheese and steamed sponge cake

High- purine diet: meat juice, hyacinth bean, lean meat, duck, mushroom, viscera( liver, kidney, heat), sardine, eel and asparagus.
