Patients with PKD have their inherent shortage of health. So it is very
important for them to take care of themselves in daily life in particularly for
diet. Scientific and reasonable diet can help to put off the disease's progress,
which also plays a great part in treatment and prognosis of the disease. Then,
can patients with PKD drink wine?
Many patients with PKD have a habit of drinking wine, but is it proper for
them to drink wine? Long term of clinical research has discovered that drinking
wine especially white spirit is harmful to patients with PKD. That is because
the wine has a great stimulation to kidney, which can directly stimulate the
activity of polycystin, and promotes the secretion of sac liquid and the cyst's
growth.
The recovery of kidney disease such as PKD and renal cyst needs a good
internal environment. While drinking wine more often can increase blood pressure
and being over dranked can cause a lost of bound water in cell, and
hypermetabolism of creatinine in muscles, which results in an increase of serum
creatinine.
Moreover, when alcohol is metabolized, it can produce acidic
materials leading to metabolic acidosis, which displays with nausea, anorexia,
deprementia and headache, etc. In addition, long time of drinking wine can lead
to anemia, platelet function disorder, various haemorrhage, poor
gastrointestinal absorption, hyperlipemia, atherosclerosis and nutritional
deficiency which leads to low level of utilization of vitamin B1, vitamin B2 and
folic acid and increases the secretion of vitamin B6.
Apart from these, drinking wine is also harmful to kidney, which affects the
nitrogen balance of the body, increases the metabolism of protein and the amount
of BUN. It certainly aggravates the renal burden. Consequently, considering the
complicated condition of PKD, experts advise that patients with PKD should pay
more attention to not drinking wine, otherwise drinking wine can aggravate renal
burden and lead the disease to turn worse.
