Diabetic foot is a common complication of Diabetes which has a highest
incidence among complications of Diabetes. Then, what factors can cause diabetic
foot? Here are some conditions which can lead to diabetic foot as follows:
One, diabetic neuropathy is an important factor which causes diabetic foot.
60 to 70 percent of patients suffer from diabetic neuropathy, which makes
hypoaesthesia or sensation's lose. As a result, foot can not properly react and
adjust to negative factors such as tight socks, excess small shoes and too hot
foot-washing water, etc. Besides, autonomic neuropathy leads to the abnormal
function of skin such as sweating or thermoregulation, which causes dry skin,
chap and skin split. In addition, it provides entry for infection. Further more,
neuropathy of motor nerve can cause transformation of metatarsal bones and toe,
which increases the pressure of pelma and causes foot muscle atrophy. When
plantar fat pad begins to ectopia, buffering capacity of partial pelma will be
reduced and the pressure will increase, which causes interphalangeal
arthrogryposis and transformation.
Consequently, it increases pressure inside
shoes, which leads to foot ulcer.
Two, diabetic microangiopathy: embolism can cause foot ulcer and gangrene.
Patients with Diabetes have a high incidence of peripheral artery
atherosclerosis. The conditions of thrombus, medium and small atherosclerosis of
legs, microvascular thickened basement membrane, luminal stenosis and
micro-circulatory disturbance, can cause dystrophia of skin and nerve and
aggravate damage to neural function. Besides, ischemia causes foot with ulcer
difficult to recover due to its shortage of oxygen and nutriment.
Three, infection: the dysfunction of white blood cell causes the body's
easily being infected, and the infection can aggravate the metabolic disorder.
Consequently, it causes blood sugar increases and ketosis will further damages
patients' immunity function. As a result once they catch an infection of foot,
it will be quite difficult to control or correct it. For example, patients may
suffer partial infection of foot or even amputation just because of blister on
foot.
For patients with diabetes, the wound is difficult to heal, they should pay
more attention to effectively protecting any would in particular of their
diabetic foot. So they can take a series of measures to protect their foot from
damage and live a good life.
