Many people have a habit of drinking wine. For healthy people, proper
drinking wine can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart
failure. For patients with Diabetic Nephropahty, can they drink wine?
Diabetic Nephropathy is a serious complication of Diabetes. Patients usually
suffer the symptoms of edema, Hypertension, azotemia, etc. Besides, the renal
function of filtration and discharging waste products seriously declines, due to
the damage of kidney. If patients drink wine, it can threaten to patients' life.
That is because the main substance of wine is alcohol, which is metabolized in
liver and produced into ethanal or carbon dioxide. In the condition of Diabetic
Nephropahty, alcohol can activate blood pressure to increase, and the
Hypertension can aggravate the condition of Diabetic Nephropahty in turn.
Besides, Hypertension can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease because of
the disorder metabolism and hyperlipemia.
In addition, drinking wine can effect the balance of nitrogen and promote the
metabolism of protein, which increases the blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and
aggravates the burden to kidney. Besides, excessively drinking wine can promotes
the metabolism of muscles, which increases the generation of creatinine. Long
term of excessively drinking wine can lead to anemia, platelet's
dysfunction.
Consequently, Diabetic Nephropathy patients should avoid drinking wine and
well control their blood sugar concentration, hypertension and other
complications.
