Creatinine is usually considered as endogenic creatinine, which is metabolin
of muscle. In muscles, creatine is mainly metabolized gradually into creatinine
by irreversible non-enzyme dehydration and then creatinine will be released into
blood, which is expelled from body with urine. Thus creatinine is closely
related with total muscles and it is not easily affected by diet. Creatinine is
micro-molecule substance, which is filtered by glomerulus and rarely absorbed by
kidney tubules. Creatinine generated in body is almost completely discharged
from body with urine, which is usually unrelated with urine volume. Creatinine
test is a common measure in clinic used to know renal function.
High level of creatinine
Creatinine above normal level often means kidney damage. It can comparatively
exactly display the damage condition of renal parenchyma but creatinine is not a
sensitive index. Only when GFR declines to one third of normal, will creatinine
increase obviously. That is to say human kidney has a great capacity of
metabolism. When the damage of kidney is slight, people usually have no obvious
uncomfortable feelings. Consequently, when many people really represent the
symptoms such as nausea, vomit and dizzy, in fact their renal damage is serious
and the creatinine is obviously increasing.
Low level of creatinine
All patients with low or high creatinine should highly pay attention to this
condition. Creatinine in human body mainly produced by muscles metabolism with
creatine, which is expelled from body through kidney. Generally speaking,
because the total muscles in body is comparative stable, creatinine generation
is also constant. Whether the levels of Creatinine in blood is high or low, it
mainly depends on how much the kidneys discharge it. As the kidneys have a great
compensation function, so long as either of them maintain function, creatinine
will maintain a normal level. That is to say when more than half of the renal
function has been damaged, creatinine will increase. Therefore creatinine can
not reflect renal decline at its early or moderate stage.
