Primary Nephrotic Syndrome is caused by Primary Glomerular Diseases. As
Primary Glomerular Diseases are immune-mediated diseases. Therefore, hormone has
an obvious effect in treating Primary Nephritic Syndrome. However, at the same
time, hormone also has many side effects in the treatments of Primary Nephritic
Syndrome.
1. Infection
Hormone has an enormous effect in restricting immunity. Therefore, it the
patients with Primary Nephrotic Syndrome use hormone over time, it can cause
their immunity to decline thus cause them are more likely to have infection.
When patients have infection, usually their inflammation is not obvious so the
patients can not notice the inflammation.
2. Hypertension and edema
Usually the patients with Primary Nephrotic Syndrome have Hypertension and
edema when using hormone, which is caused by retention of water and sodium
caused by hormone. Therefore, the patients should observe those symptoms
carefully so as to receive antihypertensive therapy and diuresis therapy in
time.
3. Gastric ulcer
Hormone can improve the secretion of gastric acid and pepsase thus inducing
gastric ulcer and even bleeding and perforation. Therefore, if the patients with
Primary Nephrotic Syndrome, they should be cautious when taking hormone.
4. Osteoporosis
Hormone can restrain the activity of bone cells, absorption of calcium thus
hindering the bone formation, which can further lead to osteoporosis. Therefore,
if the patients, especially the elder, they should take some vitamin D and
calcium tablet in time.
5. Electrolyte disturbance
Hormone can increase the excretion of potassium thus causing hypokalemia.
6. Steroid glycosuria
Hormone can decrease the utilization rate of insulin and enhance
neoglycogenesis, which can make blood sugar increase thus causing
glycosuria.
7. Mental disorder
If the patients with Primary Nephrotic Syndrome use hormone, it can cause
them mental disorders such as insomnia.
8. Changes in body shape
Long term using hormone can cause changes in body shape such as skin cracks,
moon-shaped face, obesity, amyotrophy in limbs and so on.
As hormone can cause so many side effects on patients with Primary Nephrotc
Syndrome, they should be cautious when using hormone with their doctors’
guidance. What the patients should firstly do is to choose an effective therapy
instead of using hormone.
