Hemodialysis is an important substitutive therapy for patients with renal
failure. However, many patients feel exhausted for it disturbs their daily
routine seriously. Moreover, it is their biggest trouble to deal with the side
effects of hemodialysis.
1. Infection
Infection is a common problem for patients on hemodialysis. During long term
dialysis, the patients can lose much sugar, amino acid, water soluble vitamin
and other nutrient substances. Moreover, some patients often have poor appetite,
vomit and nausea. Therefore, the patients often can not get enough protein,
calorie and vitamin intake, which will certainly cause the patients’ immunity to
decline. In addition, the patients on hemodialysis need implant fistula or graft
in the veins and arteries, which also increase the chance of infection.
2. Amyloidosis
Among patients on hemodialysis over five years, they are very vulnerable to
amyloidosis. Sometimes the patients can not get adequate dialysis so it can not
remove a protein called beta-2-microglobulin from blood. As a result, these
protein molecules begin to link together and deposit on muscles and other
tissues. Therefore, it will cause amyloidosis.
3. Low blood pressure
When patients use hemodialysis to filtrate their blood, the blood has to be
moved out from patients’ body. In addition, the patients may lose blood during
dialysis process. The above factors will cause a drop in patients’ blood
pressure. Therefore, the patients with Hypertension should decrease their blood
pressure medicines properly before receiving hemodialysis.
4. Muscle cramps
When receiving hemodialysis, a large amount of fluid is removed out of body
at a fast speed, the patients may have muscle cramps, especially in their
legs.
Besides the above side effects of hemodialysis, the patients also may
experience sexual dysfunction, pain, and anemia and so on.
As hemodialysis can cause so many side effects on patients, it is very
important for them to receive effective treatment before they have serious renal
damage. If you want to know about how to deal with the above side effects very
well or other better treatments except dialysis, you can consult us on line or
