Silent Killer: Symptoms of Diabetes are often Hidden

Diabetes is called "Silent Killer" in many western countries as its symptoms are often hidden and subtle. Most of people do not realize they have been affected by the disease until it develops into very severe stage. However, if you can pay more attention to some abnormal changes, you may find Diabetes in a very early time.

Type 1 Diabetes is commonly seen in children and it may mimic the flu. Other symptoms include frequent urination, weight loss, fatigue and irritability. Increased thirst may also signal Type 1 Diabetes. It is caused by the concentrated blood. Hunger may also increase because the body can not make use of sugar fully and the sugar is not getting into the cells. Hence, the body can not get enough energy thus resulting in increased hunger.

However, in many cases of type 2 Diabetes, the patients do present no symptoms. It occurs more commonly among adults, especially among those above age 45 who are overweight. Therefore, this group of people had better monitor blood sugar regularly.

Also, if the parents have Diabetes, the children carry susceptible gene. It means that they are more likely to develop the disease. However, not all children will develop the disease. If they can control their daily diet, exercise more, the incidence of the disease will be reduced significantly.

Those symptoms do not always mean you have Diabetes. However, it is important for you to discuss any symptom with your doctor, signal they may signal other health problems.
