What Are the Differences between Kidney Cancer and Kidney Failure Symptoms

Kidney cancer and kidney failure are two serious diseases. Although both of them are injury in kidneys, they have their own symptoms respectively. Knowing the difference between them two is very important to the early inspection and treatment.

Kidney cancer symptoms

The symptoms of kidney cancer are very latent. In 20% cases, the patients do not show symptoms at all in its early stage. With the disease progression, hematuria, tumor and back pain will occur.

Hematuria is the most important sign of the kidney cancer and it can cover 45% of the total population. Usually, the hematuria is intermittent and gross hematuria, but sometimes is microscopic. In more than 50% cases, the hematuria does not cause pain and can remiss by own.

About 30% of the patients have a chance of growing tumor in abdomen. If the tumor is smaller than 3 cm, it is usually noticeable. However, with its growth, they can be felt obviously.

Above 50% of patients do not have back pain. But sometimes, the patients may have dull pain in the site of injury. If there is blood clot passing through urinary tract, it will cause colic pain or difficult urination.

In addition, about 25% of the patients with kidney cancer have high blood pressure and high fever and about 30% of them have anemia.

Abnormal urine output

In normal case, the urine output per day can reach up to 800~1500 ml. However, once someone is diagnosed with kidney disease, the urine output will reduce. When the urine output declines less than 400 ml per day, it is called oliguria.

However, in some cases such Acute Renal Failure, the early stage of Chronic Renal Failure etc, the urine output may increase to 2500~3000 ml per day.

Proteinuria

Proteinuria is a common symptom in Kidney Disease. In normal case, there is only 150 ml protein in urine in 24 hours. If the protein in urine exceeds the level, it is called proteinuria. If there is protein in urine, the urine will become foamy. In severe case, the protein in urine can reach up to 3.5 g in 24 hours.

Edema

As kidneys can not discharge the excess fluid from body or the protein level in blood declines, excess fluid will build up in body thus resulting in edema in lower limbs, eyelids and even enlargement of heart, hydrothorax etc.
