Hemodialysis is one of the most common dialysis types. It plays a significant
role in relieving symptoms of Renal Failure and improving the patients’ life
quality. However, there are some contraindications for it. Before performing
dialysis, you should know if it is available to you.
Contraindications:
☆ Severe hypotension, shock and anemia
☆ Arrhythmia, heart insufficiency or myocardial infarction
☆ Intracranial hemorrhage or too high intracranial pressure
☆ Advanced malignant tumor
☆ Severe hemorrhagic tendency
☆ Uncontrolled serious Diabetes
☆ Mental problems
If you have the above problems, you should control them very well before
starting dialysis.
Meanwhile, you should know the potential complications of hemodialysis.
☆ Low blood pressure: If too much fluid is filtered out of body, it will
cause blood volume to decline thus resulting in low blood pressure. In addition,
the contraction function of blood vessels may be affected by long-term use of
blood pressure medications or high-temperature dialysis fluid.
☆ High blood pressure: If the blood volume declines, it is very likely to
cause more renin to be secreted. Increased renin can increase the production of
angiotensin. As a result, the blood pressure will rise. Moreover, if the
medications are cleared up by dialysis or the contraction function is affected
by high-calcium dialysis fluid, the blood pressure will rise.
☆ Spasm: It may occur together with hypotension or several hours later. In
addition, if too fluid is filtered out of body, you will have serious and
continuous spasm and it may last for several hours after dialysis.
☆ Vomiting and nausea: It is mainly attributable to the following
factors:
1. In most cases, it is related to low blood pressure
2. It may be the early sign of imbalance syndrome
3. Hypercalcemia
☆ Headache: There is no a clear reason for it, but it may be related to the
following factors:
1. High blood pressure
2. High fever
3. Intracranial hemorrhage
4. Imbalance syndrome
The above article has described the contraindications of hemodialysis and
potential complications. If you want to know how to prevent those problems and
find a better therapy other than dialysis, it is free for you to consult us on
