Diabetes Kidney Disease is commonly seen among people with a long history of
disease. It is the most common cause of Renal Failure in the western countries.
So, is Diabetes Kidney Disease reversible in its early stage?
Firstly, how does Diabetes cause kidney injury?
1. Genetic factors
* Diabetes Kidney Disease usually clusters in a family. If there is a family
history, its morbidity can increase to 33~83%. In other cases, the morbidity is
only 10~17%.
* It may be related to the polymorphism of ACE gene.
2. Metabolic disorder
* High blood glucose can thicken the glomerular basilar membrane and increase
the excretion of proteins thus causing glomerular filtration rate (GFR) to
decline.
* High-cholesterol can speed up falling speed of GFR and glomerular sclerosis
progression.
* High blood pressure can promote occurrence and development of glomerular
sclerosis. If there is a family history of primary high blood pressure, the
morbidity of Diabetes Kidney Disease is 3 times as high as those without family
history of high blood pressure.
* Hemodynamic changes
In the early stage of Diabetes Kidney Disease, the hemodynamic changes can
cause enlargement of kidneys. The increased renal blood volume can elevate the
pressure in glomeruli thus causing extra burden to kidneys.
Is Diabetes Kidney Disease reversible in its early stage?
If Diabetes Kidney Disease keeps in its stage 1 or 2, it is possible to
reverse it because the kidneys are not damaged yet, but only have enlargement.
In most cases, as the patients do not have any discomforts or symptoms, they
usually miss the early treatment.
Generally speaking, when they have proteinuria or high blood pressure, it has
at least developed into stage 3. If so, it is very difficult to reverse the
disease by the conventional therapy. What they only can do is to control high
blood pressure and reduce protein leakages etc. Therefore, early inspection is
very important for the prevention of kidney damage in Diabetes. For the patients
with Diabetes, they are recommended to take urine microalbumin test once in
every half year. It can imply the early kidney damage clearly.
If you have experienced serious kidney damage and want to know how to restore
the damaged kidneys, Immunotherapy may be your best option.
