When people are diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis, they are quite concerned
about their life expectancy. However, there is no a generalized answer and it
varies with different cases because there are many factors that affect the
course of disease with each individual.
Pathological type
Lupus Nephritis includes 6 types of pathological types. The more severe
pathological change is, the worse the prognosis will be.
TypeⅠ, minimal change, nearly all glomeruli are normal, but there is immune
deposits in mesangial area.
△TypeⅡ, mesangial proliferation, diffusive glomerular mesangial cell
proliferation and the hyperplasia of stroma.
△TypeⅢ, focal glomerulonephritis, the glomeruli have focal or segmental
pathological change including the necrosis and sclerosis of glomeruli.
△Type Ⅳ, diffusive glomerulonephritis, the glomeruli have diffuse or
segmental pathological change including necrosis and sclerosis of glomeruli.
△TypeⅤ, membranous glomerulonephritis, glomerular basilar membrane has
diffuse incrassation with or without mesangial hyperplasia.
△TypeⅥ, more than 90% of glomeruli are sclerotic.
Health care
Health care is very important for slowing down the progression of Lupus
Nephritis and extending the patients’ life expectancy.
△The patients should avoid infections such as colds.
△They should avoid exposure to sunlight because ultraviolet rays can
aggravate and even trigger lupus activity.
△Avoid the foods that may cause allergic reaction.
Treatment
The conventional therapies mainly include hormone and cytotoxic drug.
However, they only can relieve the symptoms of Lupus Nephritis. Once the hormone
dosage is reduced, it is very likely to cause the relapse of the disease. As a
result, the disease will progressively develop into Renal Failure.
Lupus Nephritis is an autoimmune disorder, in which, the immune system
attacks the nephrons mistakenly. Immunotherapy is recommended to the
patients.
On one hand, it can regulate the autoimmune process and suppress the
inflammatory response thus stopping more damage to nephrons and the disease
progression.
On the other hand, it can repair the impaired glomeruli by its curative
effects such as anti-inflammation, anti-coagulation, dilating blood vessels and
degrading immune complexes.
Experience proves that immunotherapy is effective in treating Lupus
Nephritis. As the kidneys can improve and even recover the normal function, the
patients will be able to have normal life expectancy as common people.
