Polycystic Kidney Disease, also called Potter Syndrome, or Perlmann Syndrome,
is a kind of hereditary disease. PKD can be subclassified into two types. One is
ARPKD. The other type is ADPKD. ARPKD is often found in babies while ADPKD is
often found among youth and middle-aged people. ADPKD also can happen to people
at any age.
Pain on renal area is the common symptom of PKD. The pain which can be caused
by the internal hemorrhage of kidneys becomes more severe after manual work,
long time working or sitting. Hypertension is the common symptom of Polycystic
Kidney Disease. About half of patients have hypertension before the serum
creatinine increases. Almost half of patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease
have microscopic hematuria, and some have paroxysmal gross hematuria which is
caused by the burst of cysts.
For PKD patients, they should have active attitude towards Polycystic Kidney
Disease. Cysts in kidneys are different from tumors. Usually, they are not
malignant. Good mood can help the treatment for PKD. Besides, if patients keep
an active attitude, it will make them cooperate with the doctor, which also
plays an important role in the treatment.
In daily life, patients with PKD have to eat healthy food and avoid the foods
which are not good for PKD. Don’t eat food rich in bad quality protein such as
soybean, Tofu, and other bean food. Polycystic kidney patients would better
restrain from wine, especially alcohol, for its irritation to kidney is
significant, which can stimulate the activity of polycystic protein accumulating
the growth of cyst. Don’t eat fermentative food like soycheese. The food like
chili, barbecue and greasy food should also be avoided.
PKD patients have to avoid violent activities and trauma in abdomen. Don’t
wear pants with belt when the cysts are very big for fear of the rupture.
Replace it with suspender pants.
The most important thing is to take effective treatment. Operations can
remove the big cysts temporarily. But the small cysts around them can become
big, for the pressure become low after the operation. Micro-Chinese Medicine can
control the development of all the cysts and remove the cysts gradually without
surgery involved. Therefore, it does no harm to the kidneys.
