Can operations treat PKD effectively? Clinically, operations are adopted
commonly to treat PKD and these operations can get a fast effect indeed. For
this reason, most patients would like to choose operations to treat PKD. While
how about the general effect of these operations.
Firstly, operations can only treat the disease starting with surface disease
instead of real disease causes. Surgical operations are good at removing lesions
with the purpose of eliminating discomforts caused by neoplasm, but they can not
treat the disease from its root. All surgical operation are aiming to deal with
large cysts, having very tiny role in treating smaller cysts. Besides, with
internal pressure decrease, other smaller cysts will grow much more rapidly due
to disappeared pressure. After a certain period, these small cysts can compress
kidney for another time, causing kidney injury continuously. Therefore, PKD
patients are not suggested to take this treatment as long as there is any hope
in order to cause the vicious circulation mentioned above.
Secondly, Nephrectomy and Kidney Transplant have not only extremely expensive
cost but also unpredictable consequence. As for most PKD patients, Nephrectomy
is a good way to treat this disease radically and it is indeed. But as a larger
surgical operation with larger trauma, Nephrectomy also burdens patients both on
mental and physical heavily. Besides, due to genetic feature of PKD, the other
kidney may get acute failure once damaged kidney is removed. As for Kidney
Transplant, besides expensive cost and difficulties in finding matching kidney,
rejection happened after operation usually makes patients shrink back.
From the above, though operations can have fast effect, they still have
unavoidable disadvantages. When patients decide to take such operations, they
should be cautious enough after general consideration. Comparatively speaking,
conventional treatment is more suitable for treating PKD.
