Except regular treatment, diet is also one of the important factors for the
PKD patients. Especially in summer, for the scorching weather, PKD patients
should pay more attention to the diets. There are four taboos for the PKD
patients' summer diets:
Taboo 1, the food containing high protein: no matter with which type of
kidney disease, the patients should adopt diets containing less protein to avoid
the combining of nitrogen class metabolites in human body and to reduce the
excretion of kidney. This kind of food includes soybean, bean curd and other
bean products.
Taboo 2, fermented food: the fermented food we said here mainly means the
bacterium class fermented food, including fermented bean curd, rotten eggs and
etc. This kind of food may accelerate the growth of cysts.
Taboo 3, liquor: liquor, especially the white spirit, is very dangerous for
PKD patients. Because liquor can stimulate the activity of cysts protein, which
will accelerate the growth of cysts.
Taboo 4, animals' viscus: even the cooked animal viscus are not suitable for
PKD patients, especially the animal livers. There is a saying in China: eat
animals' viscus and tonify our human viscus. Indeed, it is not true. The main
component in animals or poultry kidney is protein, so the nutritive value of
animal kidney is similar with that of the meat of other part. Besides, during
the animal slaughter process, a large amount toxin had been left in the animals'
livers and kidneys, especially the livers. If those animal viscus are taken in
by patients, they undoubtedly will increase the burden of kidney and aggravate
the patients' condition.
In the scorching summer, except the reasonable diets, patients should also
pay attention to the following aspects:
1, coping high temperature with correct methods: for patients of nephrotic
syndrome or nephritis, they should pay attention to the sunstroke prevention and
cooling, and avoid sweating too much. Keep the room temperature moderate and the
temperature of air-condition should not below 26 centigrade, or the translation
from too hot to too cold will cause cold.
2, avoid "heatstroke" of emotion: the fluctuation of emotion and blood
pressure usually will cause the repeating of disease.
3, have a good rest and had better not go swimming or have a cold shower: for
the high temperature of summer, many patients like to go out for a walk after a
meal or even go swimming or have a cold shower to enjoy the cool pleasure, which
will increase the chance of having a cold. And too much exercise will increase
the burden of kidney and affect the treatment.
