Diabetes mellitus is a boring disease but it can be controlled well by proper
physical activity exercise.
What are the benefits?
Proper physical activity exercise can lower your blood sugar and blood
pressure; improve ability of the body to use insulin; reduce the risk for heart
disease and stroke; make your heart and bones strong; improve poor blood
circulation.
What physical exercise should I do?
Exercise is not an intended thing that you must prepare a long time or takes
a certain amount of time. Doing some simple activities also bring some benefits.
These activities may include:
* Walk around when you are listening to music or calling phone.
* Help to do some housework
* Water your flower in your balcony or garden
* Take your dog for a walk
* Give a bath of your cat
* Play with the kids
* Cook meals yourself
When your physical is well enough you can try a higher level of exercise some
of which are listed below
* Climbing stairs instead of taking elevator
* Hiking
* Riding bicycle outdoors
* Jogging
* Playing tennis
* Dancing
These sports often require more energy and often make your heart beat faster
and you may also sweat. 30 minutes a days and at least 5 days a week is suggest.
However, you should remember that the exercise is not good as much as possible,
and it must beyond your bearing capability.
Some considerations:
For diabetes type 1 patients, strenuous sports should be avoided when ketones
appear in the blood or urine because ketones are often results of high blood
sugar. And the blood sugar will also be evaluated if strenuous sports continue
ignoring the already presence of ketones.
For diabetes type 2 patients, wild and moderate sports will lower your blood
sugar if your blood sugar is high but without appearance of ketones.
Proper exercises bring many benefits but improper exercise cannot not only
lower blood sugar but also elevate blood sugar. If you are confused whether this
kind of sport can do you some benefits, you can consult your doctor or email me
at renalhealth@hotmail.com .
