Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a common genetic disease. If patients with
PKD can not get timely treatment, it will cause a lot of complications.
Therefore, we can say that PKD is not simply a kidney disease but is a
generalized disease. It can cause the following complications.
1. Cyst infection
As the cysts enlarge, they are very likely to rupture. In that case, the
ruptured cyst can cause serious infection. When patients have infection, they
will have fever and feel violent pain in their kidney.
2. Hypertension
The enlarged cysts can cause oppression to kidney thus causing the abnormal
secretion of renin thus causing hypertension. In return, hypertension can
aggravate the damage to renal function. Therefore, it is very important for
patients to keep blood pressure within the normal level.
3. Kidney stone
As patients’ kidney can not discharge the metabolin in the body, amount of
oxalic acid will accumulate in body. This is a cause of kidney stone. Another
cause is that the patients have too much food that contains purine. The end
product of purine is uric acid that can make the carbonite in urine to deposite
in kidney thus forming kidney stone.
4. Cysts in other organs
According to some researches, among the middle-aged patients with PKD, about
half of them are accompanied with polycystic liver. Among patients above 60
years old, the incidence of polycystic liver can reach about 70%. In addition,
some patients also have cysts in pancreas and ovary.
In order to prevent the disease development, the patients should receive
effective treatment as early so possible. If you want to know more about PKD and
