The Symptoms of PKD in Children

Every parent hopes their children live a happy childhood but this dream is broken due to merciless disease which makes the whole family suffer heavily. PKD makes the childhood gloomy and without color. What are the symptoms of PKD in children?
In clinic, congenital PKD is common in children. Congenital PKD can be diagnosed with ultrasound B tests. If cysts are in one side, a surgery can remove them. ADPKD belongs to congenital disease. The boys and girls have the equal chances of developing this disease.

In the early stage, the kidney size of children with PKD is normal. With age, kidneys begin to enlarge. In the early stage, there are a few cysts in the kidneys but with the condition developing, the number of cysts in the kidneys increases and eventually the cysts will replace much of the normal structure, resulting in reduced kidney function and leading to kidney failure.

The symptoms of PKD in children include

Urinary tract infections-specifically, in the kidney cysts

Hematuria-blood in the urine

Liver and pancreatic cysts

Abnormal heart valves

High blood pressure

Kidney stones

Aneurysms-bulges in the walls of blood vessels-in the brain

Diverticulosis-small pouches bulge outward through the colon

Although a cure for PKD is not available, the current treatment can ease the symptoms and shrunk the cysts, and prolong life.
