People with renal failure are curious to how long can people live with a
kidney transplant. Most of them have to take dialysis and are waiting kidney
transplant. They need hope to support them, but nobody can be sure how many
years the transplanted kidney can live in their body.
After kidney transplant people have different results
Kidney transplant is very difficult for people in many aspects. They need
many suitable situations for preparation. First of all, the kidney donor demand
exceeds supply greatly. Maybe people have to wait for many years to have the
opportunity. Besides, kidney transplant need matching. Even if the donor is
available, matching may be another obstacle for them. A lot of tests would be
done for them in order to guarantee less injection after kidney transplant.
How long can people live with a kidney transplant?
In the newspaper, TV, website or other media, a few people live with their
transplanted kidney for more than 20 years. This type of news gives people with
renal failure for a hope. However, not everyone can live with the new kidney for
such a long time. Many factors restrain the survival of kidney failure
patients.
For all transplant recipients, heart disease is the leading cause of their
death. And about 30% of them die of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, many
people have severe rejection to this new kidney, so they have to take drugs to
restrain the rejection. The drugs can protect their kidneys but not their immune
system. Because anti-rejection drugs function through reducing the people’s
immunity. Infection is another main cause of death for people with transplanted
kidney. Besides, immunosuppressants should be taken every day; otherwise their
kidney would gradually die.
So usually one-year or five-year survival is good but patients with kidney
transplant only have 1% rate to have ten-year survival. That is why many people
have to take dialysis or receive another kidney transplant. Due to the low rate
of survival, many patients choose other better therapy for renal failure, for
example, Immunotherapy. You can get more information about Immunotherapy and I
hope it can give you some help.
