IgA nephropathy is a type of common kidney disease which would lead to water
retention. So in this situation, patients would get the severe swelling. When
they have this symptom, what does it mean for them?
"My doctor told me that IgA is a slight kidney disease and it may not develop
in the whole life of patients. So I am just suggested to monitor the development
of IgA. However, my illness condition worsens quickly. In the beginning, I had
blood in urine and the treatment can help it disappear. But it reoccurred for
six times in more than two years. Then I had protein in urine also and GFR was
reduced. Now the water retention confuses me, which leads to inconvenience in my
life."
IgA nephropathy
This disease is aroused by excessive antibodies—IgA (immune globulin A). That
is caused by the disorder in immune system. These antibodies are released to
defend their body. However, the excessive IgA deposit in the glomeruli for there
is some position that is fit for them. And furious immunoreactions are aroused
by the depositions. In the beginning, blood in urine usually presents and it is
gross hematuria and microscopic hematuria.
However, along with the further damage, the cells are hurt in glomeruli and
cause the leak of macromolecule of protein. If patients lose much protein, they
will have severe water retention in the lower limps or even in the whole body.
Thereby the water retention is the sign of serious step of kidney disease.
How to treat IgA nephropathy?
The traditional treatment for IgA nephropathy is hormone therapy. However,
the disease always reoccurs for several times in a few years, which may reduce
their confidence to fight against disease. In our hospital, Immunotherapy is
used to treat IgA nephropathy from the root. It can regulate the immune system
and help remove the excessive IgA from kidney tissues, so it can block the
resource of kidney inflammation. If your water retention condition is
developing, you can try immunotherapy for IgA nephropathy.
